Truthfully, I wasn't too keen on the Korean girl group - f(x) when I first heard their music. What's more, the youngest member is only.....15? I'm far too for old this! But it's frustrating when the thing you're trying to distant yourself away from pulls you in even more. This group does have talent. They dance like it's the only thing they know how to do, sing like they were born to do it and appear like they were meant for stardom. And having a girl who looks and sound so much like a dude isn't making the appeal any less easier to handle.
Not including the the recent lawsuits regarding its 'cruel & profit driven' contract terms, I personally think that SM Town is an well oiled business with effective strategies to manufacture talented and of course, profitable bands to fill the music scene (Oh yes, remember to get your nose, eyes and teeth fixed too along the way). Forming a Korean group with members both from and outside of Korea is one marketing strategy that works too well - have 1 Chinese National in a successful 13 Korean member band and you've just captured the major attention of females in China. Strike a deal with overseas recording labels to share the same band and making them sing and speak in two different languages doubles the awareness. Train an American born Chinese or any overseas Chinese to speak a foreign language and sing it really fluently, you're brought the together a massive multitude of 3rd culture teenagers who are very in the know.
Regarding which company produces the best mainstream bands, it's a close fight between
SM Town and the other major label,
JYP Entertainment. But I must say that the latter company seems a lot more friendly and less of a pain in asses of the fans and artistes though.
Ok back to the topic on f(x). The reason I brought up how brilliant SM Town is as an Entertainment company is that many of the successful Korean groups are under this corporation, including f(x). Three languages being are spoken among these five girls - English, Mandarin and Korean. Some are trained in traditional, cultural dances and also in contemporary styles. They have two foreign members - one a Taiwanese American and the other a Chinese National. f(x) isn't made up of the cuteys type of girls that dress the same ( thanks goodness for that). They're fresh, stylish and their music makes you want to dance.
But REEALLLY, I'm talking about f(x) because of Amber Liu, the extremely adorable tomboy of the group. DAMN GIRL, WHY AREN'T YOU A DUDE. Frustrating much?
Behind the cut are 3 of f(x)'s stunning music videos.
